Biography

Heather Meek is a full professor at the University of Montreal, associated with the Department of Literatures and Languages of the World. Her research examines the intersections of literary and medical cultures during the long eighteenth century, with a particular emphasis on texts authored by women physicians. Her significant publications include an analysis of Frances Burney's early nineteenth-century mastectomy narrative in 'Literature and Medicine' (2017) and explorations of Samuel Richardson's relationship with the medical milieu of his time. Her upcoming research projects include investigating women's travel and medicine from 1688 to 1796, supervised by the funding sources of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. With extensive teaching experience, she has supervised numerous theses and dissertations, contributing significantly to her field of study.
