Dr. Heather Melichar

Biography

Heather Melichar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University. Her research focuses on T cell development and function, exploring the mechanisms that generate the diverse repertoire of antigen receptors necessary for immune responses. She investigates how T cells recognize infected or abnormal cells and the signaling events involved in T cell activation and differentiation. Her work employs high-content imaging approaches and utilizes genetically engineered mouse models to study T cell behavior in various contexts. By understanding the signals that guide T cell receptor development and function, Melichar aims to harness T cells for novel immunotherapy strategies. Her research also looks into the modulation of T cell responses through co-signaling molecules in the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, identifying potential targets to enhance anti-tumor T cell responses.
