I am interested in distributed concurrent computation and programming languages, particularly data-centric and data-intensive approaches, including big data and eventually-consistent systems in edge computing. A major recurring theme in my work is composability, and I seek to enable the construction of complex distributed systems through the composition of well-understood components for correct construction. My projects include developing programming models and type systems that facilitate the design of new functional distributed systems, distributable closures, flexible, extensible, and performant serialization, as well as asynchronous concurrent programming using futures and promises, and deterministic concurrent dataflow. I have extensively worked on the Scala programming language, contributing to advancements in this area.
