Biography

Dr. Murphy has over twenty years of experience in water-related research, focusing on water and wastewater treatment, water quality, and microbiology. She obtained her PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph, Canada, which emphasized appropriate household water treatment technologies for rural Cambodia. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Murphy worked as a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Specialist for UNICEF in Mali and Madagascar, where she coordinated a $25 million Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene program. After returning to academia in 2013, she completed a research fellowship at the Public Health Agency of Canada, quantifying the burden of waterborne disease in the Canadian population. In 2015, Dr. Murphy joined Temple University's College of Public Health as an Assistant Professor and currently holds an adjunct Associate Research Professor position. Since September 2020, she has been associated with the Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College as a Tier II Canada Research Chair and Associate Professor working in the Health area. Her research interests include addressing water health challenges in both developed and developing countries through a Health approach.
