Biography

Heather Schatten, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is also a Research Psychologist at Butler Hospital's Psychosocial Research Program. Her work primarily focuses on identifying novel risk factors for suicidal ideation and behavior, and she is particularly interested in using ecological momentary assessment and smartphone-delivered technologies to develop real-time interventions targeting these risk factors. Heather has been involved in a number of funded research projects, including examining the relationships between sensor-derived alcohol use data and suicide risk in daily life, and has served roles ranging from Principal Investigator to Co-Investigator. She is committed to leveraging technology for mental health interventions, aiming to improve real-time responses to suicidal behaviors. In addition to her research, she has received several awards throughout her career for her contributions to psychology and education, including the NIH Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program. With a solid educational background, she earned her Ph.D. in 2014 and has been continually engaging with the academic community through various teaching and research roles.
