Biography

Heather Zheng is a Neubauer Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. She received her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1999. Prior to joining the University of Chicago in 2017, she spent six years in industry labs including Bell Labs and Microsoft Research Asia, and twelve years at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Zheng co-directs the SAND Lab (Security, Algorithms, Networking, and Data) with Professor Ben Y. Zhao, focusing on security and machine learning in networked systems, HCI, and data mining. She has been recognized for her significant contributions to wireless networking, mobile systems, and security. Throughout her research career spanning over two decades, she has tackled high-impact problems by adapting her work to evolve with technological advancements. Zheng was selected as a Fellow of the World Technology Network, an IEEE Fellow in 2015, and an ACM Fellow in 2023. Her work has appeared in prestigious publications, and she has been acknowledged in the MIT Technology Review for her contributions to innovative technologies.
