Dr. Heba El Fiqi

Biography

Dr. Heba El-Fiqi is a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and its applications across various domains. Her research primarily focuses on decentralized intelligent systems, integrating swarm intelligence and representation learning to develop robust AI in complex environments. Dr. El-Fiqi's groundbreaking work, including the development of the Weighted Gate Layer Autoencoder (WGLAE), has made significant contributions to the fields of cognitive signal processing and machine learning. With over AUD $1.2 million in competitive funding, she has published extensively in leading international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics and IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics & Security. In addition to her research achievements, she serves as an Academic Editor for PLOS and is involved in several professional organizations, including the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. Dr. El-Fiqi is committed to student success and innovation in teaching, having designed and supervised a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at UNSW.
