Professor Carrillo has a joint appointment in the Sociology Department and the Gender & Sexuality Studies Program at Northwestern University. He is affiliated with Latina/o Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and the Institute for Policy Research. As the founder and past co-director of the Sexualities Project Northwestern (SPAN), he promotes interdisciplinary research and education in sexuality. He has also conducted research on the experiences of straight-identified men who are sexually interested in women and men. Carrillo has a significant history of involvement with HIV/AIDS community-based organizations, and he served as past chair of the Sociology Sexualities Section of the ASA and as senior editor for the journal Theory and Society.
