Biography

Hector De la Hoz Siegler is a Professor at the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, where he also serves as the Associate Dean (Academic). He earned his B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 2003 and later received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 2012. His research interests focus on biological carbon capture conversion, biomaterials, microalgal biotechnology, and oleochemicals. He has been recognized with multiple awards for teaching excellence including the Teaching Excellence Award from the Engineering Students Society at the University of Calgary in 2020, and the Teaching Achievement Award in 2017 from the Schulich School of Engineering. Additionally, he received the GREAT Supervisor Award from the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary in 2015 and the Green Talents Award for Sustainable Development in 2013 from the German Federal Ministry Education Research (BMBF).
