Biography

Hector Dominguez-Ruvalcaba is a Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests encompass Queer Latin American Studies, gender violence, and the impact of criminal organizations in the context of the US-Mexico Border. He teaches courses on Queer Latin American Literature and Culture, as well as Latin American Modernism and film. He obtained his Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1999, and he holds a Master's degree in Spanish from New Mexico State University and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Letters from Universidad Veracruzana. Some of his notable publications include “La modernidad abyecta: formación de discurso homosexual en Latinoamérica” and “Modernity Nation: Mexican Representations of Masculinity.” Dominguez-Ruvalcaba has also contributed to edited volumes and served on editorial boards for prominent academic journals in the field.
