Biography

Hedvig Schmidt is an Associate Professor in the Southampton Law School at the University of Southampton. She holds a BSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law from Copenhagen Business School (2000), an LLM in European Union Law with Distinction (2001), and a PhD (2008) from the University of Essex. Dr. Schmidt was a Junior Research Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in London from 2004-2005 and served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Essex. Since joining Southampton Law School in 2005, she has been promoted to Lecturer and then Associate Professor in 2012. Dr. Schmidt specializes in competition law policy, antitrust law, and intellectual property law, with a particular focus on EU competition law. She is a co-author of the internationally recognized book ‘Competition Law and Intellectual Property Rights: Regulation of Innovation,’ and currently leads research projects assessing the implications of competition rules in digital and innovation markets. In addition to her research, she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules on Public Law, Intellectual Property Law, and International Competition Law. Dr. Schmidt is a strong advocate for education, actively mentoring students and staff.
