Biography

Heidi Cook-Andersen completed her M.D./Ph.D. at Yale University as a Howard Hughes Predoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Joan Steitz. She completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and further specialized in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at UC San Diego. She is the recipient of the NIH Women’s Reproductive Health Research Award and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund CAMS Award. Since joining the faculty in 2017, she has held a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Biology and the Department of Reproductive Sciences. Her research focuses on the early stages of life and the regulatory mechanisms that drive development, particularly the transition from oocyte to embryo. Her lab investigates gene regulatory processes during these critical transitions, addressing complex questions about transcriptional control and reprogramming of cells.
