Biography

Heidi M. Hurd serves as the Ross Helen Workman Chair and Co-Director of the Program in Law and Philosophy at the University of Illinois College of Law. She previously held the role of the College of Law's eleventh dean from 2002 to 2007 and the David C. Baum Professorship in Law from 2002 to 2017. Hurd spent twelve years in various academic roles at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and co-founded the Institute for Law and Philosophy. She has also taught at institutions including the University of Virginia Law School, the University of Iowa, and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. An accomplished author, her work includes "Moral Combat" published by Cambridge University Press and contributions to numerous top law journals. Hurd engages actively in academia through lectures and presentations globally, and she has provided testimony to the U.S. House Committee on Judiciary. Her education includes a J.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, an M.A. from Dalhousie University, and a B.A. from Queen's University.
