Dr. Heidi Mason

Biography

Heidi Mason is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing specializing in oncology and palliative care education. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Madonna University (2019), a Master of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University (1998), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University (1986). With over 28 years of experience in oncology, Dr. Mason focuses on symptom management and end-of-life conversations, having published works on independent nurse practitioner clinics and their roles in head and neck oncology. She actively lectures on pain management, symptom management, and the nursing profession, guiding graduate students through clinical practice and decision-making. Dr. Mason has affiliations with the American Society for Pain Management Nursing, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the Oncology Nursing Society, highlighting her commitment to advancing nursing practices in oncology. Her dedication to teaching includes working with acute care nurse practitioner students at the University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, providing support and alternative learning experiences to enhance their educational journey.
