Dr. Heike Hanhörster

Biography

Heike Hanhörster is a professor at the Technical University of Berlin focusing on social cohesion, diversity, and migration in spatial planning. Her work addresses social participation among different social groups and the social cohesion within cities and neighborhoods, particularly in the context of increasing migration and diversification of urban areas. She aims to understand various forms of spatial inclusion and exclusion, as well as the institutional changes related to diversity among different stakeholders including public administration, politics, civil society, and businesses. A key focus of her research is the housing sector, where she emphasizes the necessity for equal living conditions and the enhancement of participation for all urban residents. Hanhörster's teaching is closely linked with ongoing research projects, exploring social-spatial processes and different research methods in an interdisciplinary approach.
