Biography

Heike Harting specializes in postcolonial theory and Canadian African literatures in English. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Victoria and joined the Université de Montréal in August 2003. As an associate professor, she co-founded and currently serves as co-director of the Research Centre for Planetary Cultural Literary Studies at the university, a leading center of its type in Canada. Her research focuses on narratives of global violence and the interplay between planetary health and African Canadian literatures. Harting's recent projects examine decolonial writing and bioart, aiming to shift hegemonic discourses surrounding the Anthropocene. She has published numerous articles and is currently involved in editing special issues related to Canadian peacekeeping narratives and cinematic representations of planetary crises. Her commitment to pedagogy leads her to supervise various graduate projects interlinking contemporary literary studies and health humanities.
