Biography

Professor Heiko Witt conducts research on the molecular causes of gastroenterological diseases during childhood and adolescence, focusing on the identification of disease genes that predispose individuals to the development of pancreatic diseases, including chronic pancreatitis. His research interests also encompass genetics related to inflammatory bowel disease, liver diseases, and fructose malabsorption. After studying medicine and earning his MD in 1998 from Humboldt University of Berlin, he acquired a post-doctoral teaching qualification (Habilitation) from Charité in 2004. In 2008, he assumed a professorship position funded by the Kröner-Fresenius Foundation at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Professor Witt is an active member of several professional organizations, including the German Society for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (DGKJ), the German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Disorders (DGVS), and the Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (GPGE). He has received several awards for his contributions to the field of gastroenterology, including the Dr. Norbert Henning Prize in 2003 and the Research Prize from Charité in 2000.
