Biography

Heitor Almeida is the Stanley C. Joan J. Golder Distinguished Chair in Corporate Finance and Academic Director of iDegrees at Gies College of Business, University of Illinois. He joined the University of Illinois in 2007 and has a background as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research interests include financial constraints, liquidity management, business groups, financial distress, stock repurchases, and innovation. Almeida has served as associate editor for various financial journals and is currently the managing editor of the Journal of Corporate Finance. He earned his Bachelor’s degrees from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the Central University Una in Brazil, and his Master’s and PhD in Economics from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and the University of Chicago, respectively. He has held several academic positions, including Director of the Finance PhD program and Academic Director for iMBA Programs at the University of Illinois. His teaching focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and related areas, aiming to provide students with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of financial transactions and corporate governance.
