Biography

Helen Chatterjee is a Professor of Human Ecological Health at University College London, specializing in the intersection of genetics, evolution, and the environment. With a BSc in Natural Environmental Science and an MSc in Palaeoanthropology from the University of Sheffield, she completed her PhD at UCL in 2001. Since joining UCL in 1996 as Curator of the Grant Museum of Zoology, she has dedicated a decade to both research and museum involvement. Alongside her research tasks, Helen is engaged in teaching, supervising doctoral students, and contributing to institutional initiatives that enhance education and research. She sits on the UCL Health Public Delivery Group and co-leads the 'Creative Health Community' initiative. Her efforts in promoting the connection between culture, health, and well-being led to co-founding the Culture, Health, and Wellbeing Alliance and serving as an advisor to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Arts, Health and Wellbeing. Helen's research achievements have garnered multiple accolades including recognition from Public Health England and the AHRC-Wellcome Health Humanities Medal. In 2015, she was awarded an MBE for her contributions to higher education and culture.
