Biography

Helen Frowe is a Professor of Practical Philosophy at Stockholm University, specializing in moral political philosophy with particular interests in ethics, harming, and saving. She is a Knut Alice Wallenberg Scholar and has held various prestigious positions including Visiting Fellow at Perry World House, University of Pennsylvania. Frowe completed her PhD at the University of Reading in 2007, focusing on the works of Brad Hooker and Andrew Williams, and later worked with Jeff McMahan at Rutgers University. Before her current role at Stockholm University, she served as a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Kent and was a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Sheffield. Her research has extensively covered topics such as the ethics of war and self-defense, resulting in publications in notable journals including Ethics and the Journal of Applied Philosophy. Frowe has authored several monographs and co-edited the Oxford Handbook of Ethics of War. She is currently writing a book on the duty to rescue and has won the 2019 Marc Sanders Prize for Political Philosophy. Her project work includes investigating moral coercion and cultural heritage in war.
