Dr. Helen Lochhead

Biography

Professor Helen Lochhead is an Australian architect and urbanist, previously serving as Emeritus Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where she also held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor for Precincts, facilitating strategic oversight for UNSW precincts from 2015 to 2020. Lochhead's extensive career includes numerous influential roles within the New South Wales Government, including as Executive Director for the Sydney Olympic Park Authority and the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. Her work primarily revolves around planning, design, and delivery of complex multidisciplinary public works projects, notably contributing to the development and management of Sydney's urban landscape, such as the transformation of Sydney's Olympic Park and the revitalization of Sydney Cove. Lochhead's scholarly and professional accomplishments have garnered her widespread recognition, earning prestigious awards like the AIA Marion Mahony Griffin Prize and the AILA National Award for leadership in adapting to climate change. She has been involved in high-level appointments, including National President of the Australian Institute of Architects and sitting on the Australian Heritage Council.
