Helen McCartney is a Reader in Defence Studies at King's College London. She joined the Defence Studies Department in 2000, having previously held the position of Scouloudi Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research and worked as a research assistant for the King’s Research Unit on Combat Syndromes. McCartney holds a BA from the University of Warwick and both an MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge. She is also involved as a co-investigator in a joint project examining the ‘lessons learned’ by the UK armed forces. Her knowledge exchange activities include reports for the Department of Defense and she has served as a councillor for the Army Records Society and as a historical advisor for the Soldiers Oxfordshire Museum.
