Biography

Helen Minnis is a Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Glasgow. Her clinical research focuses on psychiatric issues affecting abused and neglected children. Currently, her research emphasizes intervention strategies, specifically through randomized controlled trials of an infant mental health service aimed at young children in foster care, and the randomized controlled trial of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy targeting primary school-aged children in adoptive and foster placements. Additionally, she conducts behavioral genetic research, exploring the impact of abuse and neglect on neurodevelopment across the life course. Helen collaborates extensively with colleagues at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London, as well as with universities in Denmark and the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre in Sweden. Her primary research interests lie in conducting trials of complex interventions designed to assist families facing significant challenges, including child maltreatment and neurodevelopmental disorders. She is also involved in epidemiological research that examines the connection between child maltreatment, neurodevelopment, and mental health across the lifespan.
