Biography

Helen Packwood joined the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh in 2019, working with the Q Step Centre, which aims to equip students with quantitative skills training. She has contributed significantly to the expansion of outreach ambitions at the Centre and has been involved in establishing the Q Step Academy, which focuses on raising the profile of social statistics in schools throughout Edinburgh, UK. As a lecturer in Social Research Methods, she is a core staff member of the Research Training Centre. Packwood's work is concentrated on understanding the impact of COVID-19 on children and young people, and she is currently involved in the TEAMS project to understand school systems accommodating increasing diversity among student populations, particularly for migrant students across Sweden, Finland, and Scotland. Her research combines quantitative and qualitative methods to explore issues of educational inequalities, especially relating to migrant minority backgrounds. She supervises various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in social policy and has a wealth of experience in both teaching and frontline work with communities.
