Dr. Helen Xanthaki

Biography

Helen Xanthaki has been with University College London (UCL) since 2016, where she serves as the Dean of Postgraduate Laws Programmes. She has over 18 years of experience as Director of the Sir William Dale Centre for Legislative Studies at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS). Recognized as one of the top experts in legislative drafting and legislation quality in the UK, Commonwealth, and EU, she is the author of prominent texts including the '5th and 6th editions of Thornton's Legislative Drafting'. She has consulted for various governments and international organizations, focusing on legislative reform and training. In addition to her academic roles, she has worked as a Key Expert on a project for EU-funded technical assistance in Greece, further establishing her engagement with legislative processes across numerous countries. Her research emphasizes the effectiveness and quality of legislation, underpinning drafting manuals used in several nations.
