Dr. Helena Cleeve

Biography

Helena Cleeve is a researcher and substitute senior lecturer specializing in theory of science within the Department of Philosophy and Linguistics at the University of Gothenburg. She earned her PhD in 2020 from the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm. Previously, she held a postdoctoral position in the Department of Sociology and Work Science at the University of Gothenburg. Cleeve has a background in design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from Lund University (2011) and a Master of Fine Arts in Transdisciplinary Design from Parsons The New School for Design in New York. She is an interdisciplinary researcher who utilizes her artistic background to develop visual methods in care research. Her theoretical and methodological approach is grounded in care studies, science and technology studies, posthumanism, and visual studies. Cleeve’s current research focuses on care practices, particularly involving living with dementia. She leads an artistic research project titled "Visions Care – Drawing Way Seeing Relationship Visualised Valued Home Care," funded by the Swedish Research Council, and collaborates with Associate Professor Doris Lydahl and artist-researcher Danica Knezevic. Her work has been published in notable journals including Medical Anthropology and Sociology of Health and Illness.
