Dr. Helena Forsblad D Elia

Biography

Helena Forsblad D'Elia is a Professor and Chief Physician in the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research at the University of Gothenburg. She has combined her role as a rheumatologist at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, where she is a senior consultant in rheumatology. Dr. Forsblad D'Elia's clinical and translational research primarily focuses on understanding factors important in the development of rheumatic diseases, particularly axial spondyloarthritis (ax-SpA), and how these conditions affect patients' lives. She leads the SpondyloArthritis Research Group and has supervised several PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Helena obtained her Medical Degree from the University of Gothenburg in 1988, became a licensed physician in 1991, and earned her PhD in Rheumatology in 2003. She has held various academic positions, including Associate Professor and has continued to advance in her role at the university, achieving her current professorship in 2021. Her work includes numerous publications in reputable medical journals, contributing to the understanding and treatment of rheumatological conditions.
