Biography

Helena Holgersson is a Senior Lecturer in the Gender Culture Studies unit at the University of Gothenburg. She defended her PhD thesis in Sociology in 2011, focusing on the urban geography of non-citizenship, particularly investigating how undocumented migrants navigate public spaces and the responses of municipalities to their presence. Holgersson is involved in ongoing research addressing the conflicts within urban development, migration patterns, and living conditions in densely populated cities. She leads ethnographic sub-studies focusing on low-income residents experiencing neighborhood upgrading. Additionally, her work participates in digitizing cultural history archives of performing arts in Gothenburg from 1965 to 2000, documenting diversity in cultural heritage.
