Biography

Helena Lee is an Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Southampton and Southampton General Hospital, specializing in neuro-ophthalmology and pediatrics. She has an international research reputation in infantile nystagmus, pediatric retinal development, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Dr. Lee has conducted extensive research on the effects of idiopathic infantile nystagmus and albinism on retinal development. She was awarded the Fight Sight Award in 2015 for her work on normal retinal development and has received a £1.4 million Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinician Scientist Fellowship grant to investigate the role of oral levodopa in improving visual development in infants and young children with albinism, known as the OLIVIA study. Dr. Lee has garnered multiple awards such as the Bayer Educational Grant in 2015 and the Royal Society Squint Forum Prize in 2020 for her contributions to the field of ophthalmology.
