Professor Dr. Helena Lindgren

Biography

Helena Lindgren has a multidisciplinary background as a licensed occupational therapist and work consultant specializing in work rehabilitation and ergonomics, combined with expertise in computer science. As a Professor at Umeå University, she operates at the intersection of artificial intelligence, interaction design, and cognitive science with a focus on understanding human behaviors. Her core research areas involve human-centered AI and Human-AI collaboration, emphasizing the development of intelligent autonomous systems in health care while acknowledging the complexity of changing health care organizations. Lindgren established the Interactive Intelligent Systems laboratory to explore interactive, intelligent, assistive social environments and initiated the UMeHealth research environment in collaboration with medical health domains. Her commitment to education spans over two decades, during which she developed computer science curricula in collaboration with various faculties, emphasizing human-centered trustworthy AI. Lindgren actively leads research projects aimed at personalized health coaching and developing socially intelligent digital systems to improve emotional well-being.
