Biography

Helena Sanson is a Professor in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge, specializing in Italian, History Linguistics, and Women's Studies. She joined the Department of Italian in 2003 and brought with her a wealth of experience from her previous position as a lecturer at University College London. Professor Sanson has significantly contributed to the field, co-editing works such as 'Women, Language and Grammar: Italy 1500-1900' and 'Women, History and Linguistics'. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the historical relationship between linguistic thought and the role of women writers throughout Italian history, particularly from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century. Sanson's teaching interests include modules on Gender Studies and Italian literature, and she is currently working on a monograph that investigates the role of women translators in Italy during the long eighteenth century. Dr. Sanson has received numerous awards and grants, including a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Leverhulme Research Fellowship, which have facilitated her research on gender perspectives in language and translation.
