Biography

Helge Wurdemann is a roboticist who started his academic tenure-track position at University College London (UCL) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2016. He is among the core roboticists at UCL developing innovative robotic hardware and has made significant contributions to leading premium robotics conferences and journals. Helge has established a diverse research team in the Soft Haptics & Robotics Lab, which is one of the largest groups in the UCL Department of Mechanical Engineering. He has (co-)authored and submitted over 100 papers in high-impact journals and has been invited to give numerous keynote presentations and talks. Throughout his career, he has served as an organizer for many conferences and workshops in robotics, including being the Co-General Chair for ICRA 2023. He has also held leadership roles in various professional technical networks and contributed to strategic initiatives in surgical and soft robotics. Helge holds a Diplom-Ing in Electrical Engineering from Leibniz University of Hanover and has coordinated a multidisciplinary EU project with a total budget of €7.35 million. He has worked to strengthen the international reputation of King’s Centre for Robotics Research and has relevant peer review experience in multiple high-impact journals and funding bodies.
