Dr. Helle Wijk

Biography

Helle Wijk is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg, specifically within the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy. Her research focuses on healthcare environments, geriatric care, and person-centred care, with a significant emphasis on how the physical organizational environment influences health, care quality, and patient safety. She has extensive experience leading interdisciplinary collaborations across healthcare, academia, and architecture. Professor Wijk has published over 140 peer-reviewed scientific articles, edited nine books, and authored 40 book chapters. As principal investigator, she has secured substantial external funding and served as an expert reviewer for national and international research foundations. She continues to mentor new generations of researchers in nursing and healthcare sciences, while her teaching excellence has been recognized with the title of Excellent Teacher at the University of Gothenburg. Wijk is actively involved in various national quality registers, research policy, and professional networks, serving on advisory boards and groups. Moreover, she leads the research group focused on Health Care Environments and is a member of the Centre for Person-Centred Care at the University of Gothenburg.
