Biography

Dr. Luchman is a Research Assistant Professor with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the University of Calgary. Her research focuses on deregulated signal transduction pathways, disease modeling, and therapeutics, especially in relation to cancer. In her previous work, she has modeled cancer initiation and progression using developmental transgenic mouse models. In recent years, her research has centered on cancer-initiating cells in brain tumors, particularly examining the mechanisms that regulate resistance to treatment. She has a special interest in intracellular oncogenic pathways and experimental therapeutics aimed at translating findings from the bench to bedside. Currently, Dr. Luchman aims to advance the understanding of the cell biology and genetics that play critical roles in disease initiation, progression, and recurrence, and she works on developing novel targeting therapeutic strategies for genetic somatic diseases and rare diseases. Additionally, she is involved in university strategic initiatives such as projects related to Variable Gene Expressivity and Penetrance.
