Biography

Dr. Hengameh Zahed is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist at the Stanford Medicine Movement Disorders Center. As a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences, she diagnoses and treats a wide range of movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and ataxia. Dr. Zahed creates personalized treatment plans for her patients, utilizing a variety of options including pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease tremors, and botulinum toxin injections for spasticity. Before joining Stanford University, Dr. Zahed completed her neurology residency and fellowship in movement disorders at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she earned her MD and PhD in biomedical sciences. Her research interests focus on understanding the genetic and electrophysiological underpinnings of movement disorders and investigating the applications of wearable technologies to monitor symptoms and improve the quality of life for patients affected by these conditions. Dr. Zahed has participated in clinical trials for new therapeutics aimed at Parkinson’s disease and has published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Movement Disorders and Molecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine. She has also presented at international, national, and regional meetings, such as the International Congress on Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders and the Society for Neuroscience. Additionally, she is a member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society.
