Dr. Henning Schreiber

Biography

Henning Schreiber is a Professor at the University of Hamburg, leading the Department of African Studies and Ethiopian Studies. With a focus on African linguistics, his research addresses language contact phenomena, sociolinguistics, and linguistic documentation. Schreiber has conducted extensive studies in West African languages and contextual language variation. He previously held positions as a Junior Professor in African Linguistics and worked as a research assistant at Goethe University Frankfurt. His academic contributions include several edited volumes and numerous articles on topics such as corpus linguistics, language classification, and sociolinguistic networks. Schreiber has produced significant works that explore the linguistic landscape of West Africa, examining both historical and contemporary aspects of language use and contact. His dissertation, derived from research into the Niger-Volta languages, contributed to the understanding of Eastern Manding languages. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal Language Contact, reporting on trends and developments in the field.
