Biography

Henning Wackerhage is a Molecular Exercise Physiologist and an Associate Professor of Exercise Biology at the Technical University of Munich. He leads a research group focusing on the molecular mechanisms by which exercise improves performance, fitness, and health. His specific projects examine the effects of exercise on thermogenic adipose tissue, the blood metabolome, and proteome, as well as the role of Hippo proteins in adapting to exercise and their impact on infection risk. His work also addresses how exercise biology influences muscle hypertrophy and reprograms metabolism to enhance metabolic health. Wackerhage studied at the German Sport University Cologne, earning his doctorate while investigating muscle metabolism using 31 P-NMR. He has previously lectured in sports physiology at the University of Central Lancashire and held senior academic positions at the University of Dundee and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland before joining the Technical University of Munich in 2016.
