Biography

Henrietta McNeill-Stowers is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University, specializing in Pacific security, geopolitics, and regionalism within the Department of Pacific Affairs. Her research focuses on the security-migration nexus, particularly addressing issues related to transnational crime, criminal deportations, border security, citizenship, and security cooperation. Henrietta holds a PhD from ANU, where she examined the securitization and de-securitization of criminal deportations in the Pacific Islands, particularly in Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands. Her doctoral thesis received the IASOC award for the best PhD Thesis in 2024. She has been recognized as a Fulbright scholar, visiting institutions including the University of Hawai’i, UCLA, and Lewis Clark Law School. She has also been appointed as a La Trobe Indo-Pacific Emerging Leader. In her role, she co-investigates various projects funded by the Department of Defence, including key initiatives aimed at enhancing maritime security coordination in the Pacific. Additionally, she serves as a co-editor for forthcoming volumes on security cooperation and statecraft in the Pacific Islands, highlighting her ongoing contributions to this critical field.
