Professor Dr. Henrik Christensen

Biography

Henrik Christensen is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in the field of veterinary microbiology and bioinformatics. He holds a Master’s degree in Biology from Copenhagen University and a PhD from the same institution. With a career spanning several decades, he has worked in various roles including microbiologist at the Danish Food Agency and postdoctoral researcher at the Biotechnological Institute at DTU. His research focuses on microbiota analysis, population genetics, pathogenic bacteria in poultry, and bacterial systematics. He is a prominent figure in the study of Pasteurellaceae, where he applies advanced techniques such as 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and whole-genomic sequencing for taxonomy and serotyping. In addition to his research, he teaches bioinformatics and bacterial diagnostics at both MSc and PhD levels. Professor Christensen is actively involved in international scientific communities, serving as an associate editor and committee member for various organizations. He is recognized for his contributions to the field through multiple publications and has served as a scientific expert for the European Food Safety Authority.
