Biography

Henrik Hesse is an Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Glasgow in Singapore. He obtained his PhD from Imperial College London in 2013, focusing on reduced-order modelling approaches for load control of flexible aircraft and large wind turbines. Afterward, he completed a postdoctoral position at ETH Zurich from 2014 to 2016, where he developed novel estimation and control methods for the autonomous operation of tethered drones in a wind power prototype system. His research interests center around modelling, design, and control of autonomous systems, particularly unmanned aerial vehicles. Hesse’s work covers several key areas, including vehicle design, industry applications, certification for unmanned aerial vehicles, SLAM, sensor fusion, control design in Aerial Robotics, as well as addressing nonlinear aeroelasticity in load control and flexible multibody dynamics modelling. He is actively involved in PhD supervision and collaborations related to his research. Hesse is a Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and serves on editorial boards for multiple special issues in robotics and localisation.
