Dr. Henrik Sørensen

Biography

Henrik Kragh Sørensen is a Professor at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in the history and philosophy of mathematics and computer science. He has published over 100 research publications, focusing on the history of mathematics from the 1800s, the philosophy of mathematics, and educational aspects of these fields. His current research involves the application of digital humanities to the philosophy of mathematical practice, employing digital methods such as big data and machine learning to study mathematical research practices. Sørensen's work is driven by key topics, including the transition to a concept-centered approach to mathematics in the early 19th century and the internationalization of mathematics in Scandinavia during the early 20th century. He has also supervised numerous student projects at the bachelor's and master's levels and has taught undergraduate courses in the philosophy of science and computer science, along with the history of computer science. Prior to his current position, Sørensen served as an Associate Professor at Aarhus University from 2008 until 2016.
