Biography

Henry W. Brands is a Professor and holds the Jack S. Blanton Sr. Chair in History at the University of Texas at Austin. He completed his Ph.D. in History in 1985 from the University of Texas at Austin. Brands has an extensive academic background, having taught mathematics and history at various educational institutions, including nine years in high schools and community colleges. He resumed his formal education, earning graduate degrees that allowed him to teach and engage in historical research. He joined the history faculty at Texas A&M University in 1987, where he taught for seventeen years before returning to the University of Texas in 2005. Brands has authored numerous books and articles, with his writings receiving critical acclaim and recognition, including being a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His publications have been translated into several languages and featured in prominent media outlets. Apart from his academic contributions, Brands is known for his appearances on national radio and television programs, engaging with contemporary historical discussions, and being a member of several honorary societies.
