Biography

Dr. Henry Seth Friedman is the James B. Powell, Jr. Distinguished Professor in Pediatric Oncology at Duke University School of Medicine. His research focuses on comprehensive analysis of biology and therapy for adult and childhood central nervous system malignancies, particularly high-grade medulloblastoma, glioma, and ependymoma. Dr. Friedman’s laboratory studies employ active programs using human adult and pediatric CNS tumor continuous cell lines, as well as transplantable xenografts in athymic nude mice and rats. His work is centered on defining chemotherapeutic profiles and mechanisms of resistance to classical bifunctional alkylators and nitrosoureas. His clinical investigations are designed to translate laboratory findings into successful treatments for adults and children with malignant brain tumors. Dr. Friedman has received multiple grants for his pioneering work in neuro-oncology, and he continues to lead efforts in developing innovative therapies for glioblastoma multiforme and other brain tumors. With a focus on clinical trials, he aims to evaluate new agents and improve survival rates for patients with these challenging conditions.
