Biography

Henry González is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), where he oversees commitments exceeding USD 16 billion and manages close to USD 60 billion in co-financing across 290 projects in more than 135 countries. During his tenure at the fund, he has held various leadership roles including Executive Director ad-interim and Deputy Executive Director of the Private Sector Facility. With over 30 years of professional experience in sustainable impact investing and political economic development in emerging markets, Henry has contributed significantly to the field. Before joining GCF from 2013 to 2021, he served as an Associate Fellow at the Saïd Business School, directing the Oxford Fundamentals of Sustainable Investing Programme. He was also the Lead Financial Sector Specialist at CGAP, the World Bank-housed financial inclusion think tank. Prior to these roles, Henry was the Global Head of Research Advisory at responsAbility Investments AG, where he led thought leadership and technical assistance on environmental, social, and governance strategies in finance and climate agriculture. His experience also includes serving as Vice President for Emerging Markets Debt Investing at Morgan Stanley and various positions at the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme in the Government of Costa Rica. Henry holds an MBA from Oxford University, where he was a Skoll Scholar, an MPA from Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Costa Rica.
