Biography

Henry T.C. Hu holds the Allan Shivers Chair in Law at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law. His teaching focuses on corporate law, modern finance governance, and securities regulation. His writings and public service primarily relate to the intersection of law and economics, capital markets, corporate governance, and financial institutions. Professor Hu has a special interest in financial innovations, such as derivatives and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). He served as the founding Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Economic Risk Analysis from 2009 to 2011, contributing significantly to the development of that Division over its 37-year history. He also chaired the Business Associations Section of the Association of American Law Schools and was a member of the Legal Advisory Board of NASD (now known as FINRA) and the NASDAQ Market Regulation Committee. In 2010, he was named one of the 100 influential people in corporate governance by the National Association of Corporate Directors (the "Directorship 100"). Professor Hu has testified before Congress on behalf of the SEC and holds a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, an M.A. in Economics, and a J.D. from Yale University.
