Dr. Henry Kranzler

Biography

Henry R. Kranzler is a professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he holds the Karl E. Rickels Professorship of Psychiatry. He is the Co-Associate Director of Research for VISN 4 Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center and the Director of the Center for Studies of Addiction. Dr. Kranzler has an extensive background in psychiatry and addiction research, contributing significantly to the fields of alcohol use disorders and substance dependence. He has published numerous articles in esteemed journals, investigating genetic and environmental factors impacting addiction and discussing innovative treatment methodologies. Dr. Kranzler's research interests include understanding the genetic underpinnings of alcohol use disorder through multi-ancestry genome-wide association studies, the interaction of polygenic risks with environmental factors, and the efficacy of various treatments for addictive behaviors. His work has advanced the understanding of addiction's biological and psychological aspects, influencing both clinical practice and further research in the domain. With degrees in Anthropology from Monmouth University and Rutgers University, and a medical degree from UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Kranzler combines social science perspectives with medical research to tackle the complexities of addiction.
