Dr. Henry Spelman

Biography

Henry L. Spelman is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Christ's College. He specializes in Greek Literature, with a particular focus on poetry. After a brief endeavor in ice hockey, he pursued his studies as a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina and furthered his education at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He has held prestigious academic positions including Junior Research Fellow at Christ's College and was a Leventis Research Fellow at Merton College, Oxford. His research is supported by the Leverhulme Trust, allowing him research leave from October 2025 to October 2027. He welcomes potential PhD students interested in early Greek literature. Spelman is actively engaged in research supervision and consultancy.
