Biography

Henry T. Wright is a Professor of Anthropology and Curator of Near Eastern Archaeology at the Museum of Anthropological Archaeology. He began his archaeological research on prehistoric camp village sites along the Chesapeake Bay and in the Appalachians, developing a view of the past through regional ecological perspectives. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. His research focuses on Early Urban systems in southern Iraq and the study of complex societies. Professor Wright has conducted extensive fieldwork in Southern Iran, studying state administrations and urban economies from 4500 B.C. to 2500 B.C. He has also initiated a program to explore the poorly understood civilization of Madagascar, collaborating with international scholars. His work has contributed to the understanding of ecological changes in Madagascar's ecosystems and theorizes about the emergence of early civilizations across different regions of the world. He is affiliated with the Santa Fe Institute, focusing on complex systems.
