Biography

Herbert Gleiter obtained his PhD in 1966 in physics from the University of Stuttgart. His career includes significant positions such as Senior Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, City University of Hong Kong, and Distinguished Professor at Arizona State University. He was a member of the Executive Board of the Research Center Karlsruhe and founded the Institute of Nanotechnology. Gleiter's pioneering research in nanocrystalline materials has led to the recognition of his work globally, resulting in numerous awards, including more than 40 prizes, five honorary doctorates, and memberships in 10 national academies. His innovative proposals regarding structural unit models of grain boundaries have reshaped contemporary understandings in Materials Science. In 1989, he initiated the development of a new class of non-crystalline solids, termed nano-glasses, and continues to explore the limits of Quantum Physics and nanotechnology applications. Gleiter is a noted figure in the global scientific community, with over 800 publications and active participation in international conference organization on nano-materials.
