Professor Dr. Herm Hofmeyer

Biography

Hèrm Hofmeyer is an Associate Professor in the Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on Structural Design Computing, combining Computer Science with the design processes of building structures. Notable developments from his work include automated zoning, iterative structural grammars, and structural topology optimization. He applies high scientific standards in his research on the finite element method for structural engineering, using experimental data and dedicated finite element models to understand structural behavior more deeply. His recent studies include web-crippling in cold-formed steel sections and fire thermomechanical analyses in conjunction with CFD. Hèrm's academic journey began with a Master’s in Structural Design Computing and Applied Mechanics. He was awarded a PhD in Applied Mechanics and has contributed significantly to the academic world with over 50 scientific articles, 85 conference contributions, and numerous supervised theses. Hèrm is an editorial board member for Advanced Engineering Informatics and actively participates in academic committees and review processes.
